After the Angels of the Night franchise and The Widow series , Beckinsale is now trying to land a new film, and with Jolt (2021) the actress tries to deliver an Atomic (that smackdown with actress Charlize Theron remember?) to call her own there on Prime Video, but clearly fails and fails entirely.
Let’s face it, Jolt’s premise is super interesting: a woman suffers, all her life, with uncontrolled anger issues that make her want to get away with everyone. And with the help of a doctor and unusual device, she tries to survive and interact with other people. As good as the concept is, in practice I feel that Scott Wascha’s script (and perhaps the film’s editing itself) doesn’t help the story develop organically and naturally. Wascha has a very peculiar humor, which is sometimes quite incorrect, and which focuses on passages so strange that Jolt’s text is definitely not for everyone. And allied with a direction, by Tanya Wexler, which also doesn’t deliver anything very special, this combo helps (or hinders) the film to be one that leaves something to be desired.
