Although Cherry movies the dubious choice of casting is obvious, the truth is that Tom Holland ( The Devil at All Hours ) manages to defend himself and offers us a fairly correct interpretation . It was not easy at all, since his character requires the actor to explore certain interpretive facets that until now have remained hidden among so much animation and so many superheroes. However, he manages to bring the appropriate nuances to a Cherry who, from being a good boy in search of love and honor, goes on to become a tormented individual who comes to appreciate the drug more than his own existence . Following almost the same path, next to him we find a sensational Ciara Bravo(A Teacher), a ‘Nickelodeon girl’ somewhat more unknown in our country. His Emily is carried away by romance until her life ends up depending on him, in every way imaginable . They both give it their all, and their performances are reason enough that the film isn’t a complete disaster .
In a long two hours and twenty minutes, ‘Cherry’ grabs onto an overexploited premise and paints a portrait of post-traumatic stress and drug addiction that is neither interesting nor novel . In addition, his predictable script recreates too much unnecessary narration during many of the sequences , especially those in which the protagonist insists on narrating or breaking the fourth wall to tell us what we are already seeing . Nor does an overloaded montage help which, together with a visual style more pompous than the story requires , makes the film a set of clichés and references executed with more opportunism than elegance . Of course, if the Russo brothers wanted to get away from Marvel in order to avoid their typecasting, with this film they have succeeded.
