This is a film in which the South Dakota landscape and Lakota legends come to life, thanks to Canfield’s writing and direction. This film is deep with Native American legend specific to that region’s tribes. The author grew up in Wyoming, near the South Dakota Black Hills. He grew up on a ranch, and it’s apparent that the tales he heard and the land he cared for served as important inspiration for this picture. It has the feel of a love letter to that place.
